Description

Head of pension help design and implement benefit, savings and pension programs for clients. They are also responsible for the effective management of processes and data in line with the governance and compliance standards in place to achieve operational efficiencies.

1.            Major Responsibility:

2.    Specific Duties

2.1     Client acquisition and management

2.1.1      Handle pension claims, settle disputes or discrepancies, and educate employees on how a plan is set up.

2.1.2      Manage individual participant requests as well as plan level data processing and analysis

2.1.3      Complete and peer review pension calculations for plan participants who are initiating their retirement benefit.

2.1.4      finding new business and setting up new schemes.

2.1.5      You may also get involved in developmental activities, such as coordinating multiple company schemes (if you're working for a group of companies) researching the financial markets

 

2.2     Product design and development

2.2.1      develop pensions policies and pension and benefits packages

2.2.2      meet with and encourage communication between actuaries, fund managers, solicitors and consultants

2.2.3      Ensure that schemes operate effectively and meet performance, quality and customer care targets, as well as complying with industry standards

2.2.4      Apply knowledge of the Defined benefit domain, rules and regulations.

2.2.5      Create or modify calculation programs in order to respect the provisions of the relevant plans, laws and administrative procedures

2.2.6      keep up to date with current statutory regulations and monitor changes in the legal situation for pensions providers and developments in pension provision in order to ensure the optimum performance of the fund

2.2.7      make recommendations to improve the scheme in response to member feedback and scheme performance

 

 

 

2.3     Administration

2.3.1      Apply analysis skills in data analysis, trouble shooting, pension calculation logic, and business requirements development

2.3.2      Act as a subject matter expert for clients benefit calculations and other administration processes.

2.3.3      Assist with the testing of the system according to plan provisions and administrative requirements.

2.3.4      calculate the performance and value of funds

2.3.5      set meeting dates, prepare agendas and send out minutes

 

2.4     Strategy and decision making

2.4.1      Provide strategic recommendations to optimize a fund and ensure it will deliver the desired benefits to all contributors.

2.4.2      Accountable for execution of tactical business plans (derived from Business Unit Strategy)

2.4.3      Contributes to projects impacting on business deliverables.

2.4.4      Makes major operational decisions within business plan.

2.4.5      Provides operational and best practice context for the internal environment.

2.4.6      review, discuss and agree fund strategy and structure with the company board, investment managers and other advisers

2.4.7      advise the company board on new and emerging financial issues

 

2.5     Staff management

2.5.1      Manages directly (portfolio supervisors) and indirectly, (clerical staff).

2.5.2      Owns operational efficiency and quality including an operations balanced scorecard incorporating finance, people, process and customers.

2.5.3      oversee day-to-day pension management and the administration of funds

2.5.4      recruit, train and manage a team of pensions administrators.

 

 

Agreement
Qualifications

1.    Education

1.1     A business-related degree or equivalent

1.2     An MBA will be an added advantage.

 

2.    Experience

At least 10(ten) years’ experience in an operations environment at managerial level.
